A Georgian mahogany stick barometer by L.Fontan, Lewes.
The edge moulded mahogany case is herring bone veneered and outlined with chevron stringing which continues around the nicely shaped glazed door and fitted with a broken arch pediment and brass finial.
The engraved and silvered scale plate is fitted with a spirit thermometer and manual vernier and engraved with the maker's name 'L. Fontan, Lewes, Fecit'.
The exposed tube is fitted with a glass bulb cistern which is concealed behind a turned mahogany cistern cover.
