Mahogany stick barometer by Cary of London, c1850-60.
The round topped case is veneered in figured 'flame' mahogany of good colour, terminating with a turned cistern cover which conceals the portable boxwood cistern.
The ivory scale plates are engraved with a 27-31" scale, the maker's name 'Cary, London'and fitted with a rack and pinion operated vernier guage.
William Cary & Co. was a partnership between John and George Cary working from 1821 under their own name and from 1825 onwards under their uncle's name after taking over his business.
